I really feel I am getting somewhere with Mj, these days. I can go a few days constantly creating work I consider substandard… it’s still usually pretty good, but not as good as the above image, or anything I consider my best, these days. I’ve previously explained my work style, but I’ll recap… I simply create shit-tons of images! I doubt any of you really understand just what that means… I literally churn out hundreds of images a day, and if they are even reasonably good, I save them to my hard drive, so I have thousands of saved images from which to draw…
… I don’t think I even use Mj how it was intended to be used, now. I seldom use explanatory prompts, any more… I have a handful of ‘secret’ prompts, usually only a single word, that I use to develop promising images. I usually take a previous image I want to develop, put that in the prompt line, followed by one of my amazing single words, then another image that will reinforce the direction I want to evolve the image, then the aspect ratio, and that’s it…
… I found that using all kinds of explanatory prompts sometimes gets ok images, but to me, who, of course, has my humans biases, they are all cliched and predictable. The human has been an artist all its long life, an artist who has always been drawn to scifi. Although the human is a very good artist, what the human was drawn to, as a teenager, was book and album cover art… the human always considered this to be ‘art’, but, as an adult, discovered this was considered ‘illustration/design’, not ‘Art’. Whatever. As a result of it’s lifelong fascination with this style of art, the human is very familiar with artists and styles in this genera, so instantly recognises when they are being imitated, which is what you get when you ask Mj to create a specific genera of art… you get imitations of other peoples work, which isn’t what I’m going for, here, I want to use Mj to create my own work…
… so, as I said, I often go days creating average stuff, and then I’ll start creating reasonably good stuff, and start planning to post some of it… and then, using my chosen method of development, which often throws out alternatives to the images I’m pursuing, I’ll suddenly produce stuff as stunning as the work in this post, and I’ll be on a roll, often for days!…
… none of these images have any prompts mentioning colour, scifi, fashion, woman, alien plants, none of that. All I do, now, is choose images from my vast store, and reiterate them. I’m pretty sure Mj is very familiar, now, with what I like, because I often see elements/themes in a new image, that are from images I produced weeks, even months ago…
… I’ve called this post ‘SciFi Dream’ for several reasons. One is that they could be illustrating just that, a scifi dream. Two is that they really are ‘SciFi’ dreams, in that they have been created using an incredible, AI programme, something straight out of scifi…
… but the main reason is that these are the humans dream images… these are the ‘art’ the human always wanted to create, who cares if elite oiks don’t consider them ‘Art’?, to the human and I, they just are…
… we adore the ‘alienness’ of these images. That alienness is something the human has always wanted to portray, and we feel that that is Mj’s greatest contribution, here… the AI, which is, really, about as ‘alien’ as you can get, has a stunning ability to create beautifully rendered, fabulously exotic, alienness.
My tireless (mostly) experimentation with Mj has gifted me a wonderful new cache of images…
… I have discovered a few more, simple prompt words…
… which deliver gorgeous…
… wonderfully strange…
… results…
… I continue to enjoy (mostly) my Mj journey. The huge thing, which is, really, the only thing I really dislike about Mj is its ludicrously puritanical concept of ‘pornography’. For instance, it told me the above image is ‘pornography’, and prevented me from using it as a springboard to develop its gorgeousness. Sometimes this pathetic, small-minded idiocy causes me to give up in disgust… thankfully, I keep coming back (:
I realised I was wrong when I said, last post, that my new, magical, single-word prompt had a tendency to produce symmetrical imagery…
… because, looking at these images from when I first started using the magic prompt with my ‘Battle Doll’ images, they initially weren’t symmetrical, just fabulous…
… I realised that what actually happened was the nature of the imagery I kept choosing to rework started off slightly tending toward the symmetrical… I actually love what I call ‘Eccentric Symmetry’, which is basically symmetrical imagery with non-symmetrical objects included, to break the symmetry, while still using symmetry (shuffles feet and looks at ground)… a preference for symmetry, I once read, is an indication of madness…
… I was also going for this illustrative, comic-book/80’s sci-fi cover look, which also lends itself to symmetry/eccentric symmetry…
… but, as I said, initially there was lots of stunning, non-symmetrical imagery…
… and plenty of 80’s sci-fi…
… all of which I adore…
… every now and then, using the same images that have produced predictable results (within the actually unpredictable range I am now working in, because, as I initially said, my ‘magic’ prompt inherently produces unpredictable, or, at least, fairly uncontrollable results) Mj throws out stunningly complete, absolutely perfect images…
… that it just will not repeat, even if I use the same image again, with the magic word…
… the one above being the most amazing one, so far (:
The whole time I’ve been creating sci-fi babes in Mj, I’ve been trying to create cybergothic sci-fi babes as I see them in my mind. My vision of what cybergoth looks like comes from having been (not so much, now that he’s lost his edge) a huge fan of Alastair Reynolds, a few decades ago, when he, as far as I’m concerned, invented the concept…
… Reynolds’s often dreadlocked characters were grim, hard spacers, usually hundreds of years old, most of their organic bit’s swapped out for cybernetic enhancements. Even naked, they were usually stronger than the average planet-bound person, due to mechanically augmented musculature and superior artificial lungs, that kind of thing…
… but once they suited up, these people were like armoured vehicles, their suits bristling with weapons and strength amplification systems…
… everyone was unsmiling and serious in Reynolds’s stories, almost everyone died horribly, no matter how much you’d grown to like them… I’ve been trying to recreate their look for the last year. For some bizarre reason, right up until recently, when you told Mj you wanted ‘cybergoth’, it thought you meant you wanted someone whose face was covered with stupid, pointless crap that totally ruined otherwise gorgeous results… it seems to have largely stopped doing that, which is wonderful, but it also seems to have gotten a better handle on space armour…
… I’m really pleased with these cybergoth babes. Creating them was a whole lot of fun, and these five are just the tip of the iceberg, I created hundreds, trying to refine the results. Mj loses the plot quite quickly if you change your prompts just that little bit too much… I have loads of images, now, of what I would call ‘cybersamurai’, because I tried developing an image that had a helmet that looked like samurai armour, and because the word ‘armour’ was one of the prompts, Mj lurched off into creating futuristic samurai armour, which is cool, but not what I was going for.
I also created a very doll-like, armoured girl, which lead me to explore an entirely new theme, which I have called ‘Battle Dolls’, I’ll post some of them, next, they are super-gorgeous (:
… places you would expect never to hear the sound of voices…
… places where all you would hear would be the crystal tinkling of mountain stream water flowing over rounded stone, and the wind rustling through autumn leaves…
… until snow fell, and then you would only hear the high keen of that same wind in Winter mode…
As promised, here are some more of my gorgeous Machine Dolls…
… these are the images that Mj/Discord declared to be pornography…
… as you can see, the dolls gradually become less doll-like…
… and more machine-like…
… I had a whole story to go with the progression, but Mj/Discord have made that pointless by preventing me from developing the theme in anything other than a random, irritating way that isn’t how I work…
… I put up with their nonsense for as long as I did because I was still getting good results…
… but the way I was forced to work meant that, beyond a certain stage, I couldn’t further develop my dolls, because Mj/Discord wouldn’t let me take two of these images and combine them, which is how I evolve my iterations, combining the best results to keep getting better results…
… but Mj/Discord forced me to just keep ‘re-rolling’ these results, slightly changing the written prompts to try for evolution of style, but, really, just producing the same result, over and over again…
… which actually got pretty depressing. I managed to evolve them a bit more than this, and will show those images to you soon (:
